Bayshore: The Final Day

Most of our work on our fifth and final day at the Bayshore Center was a continuation of tasks we’ve posted about before, like varnishing and painting, but one job was both brand new and epic. It was “all hands on deck” to carry the sails from their storage loft through the Bayshore office, down the stairs, around the corner, down the dock, and onto the boat. The largest sail, the mainsail, took every single student, chaperone, and sailor to carry. Not only is it enormously long, even when folded, but it weighs hundreds upon hundreds of pounds. So we lined up in height order and, to the traditional call of “two, six, heave,” raised it to our shoulders and shuffled slowly along. It was an arduous but satisfying way to end our Bayshore Experience.

We’re getting some multimedia together in order to share with other groups tomorrow during our half day breakfast gathering, so with any luck you’ll see a final blog post soon with some very cool videos and pictures.
