Dominican Republic: Service & Sun

Today was awesome! We had a great day, beginning with a nice breakfast around 8:30 and a 45 minute ride on the bus with our driver, Antonio.  We arrived at the girls orphanage run by the same organization as the Orfanato de Niños de Cristo which we had visited on Saturday.  There are 60 girls living there.  We had a lot of fun playing with the kids and practicing our Spanish skills.

Next we stopped at the mall to get some grub — which turned out to be American food — Nathan’s Hot Dogs and Burger King.  We also went to the supermarket to get food for snacks. Our next stop was a small market to buy Dominican crafts and souvenirs and then on to the beach.  The water was warm and blue and the bottom was sandy until it got deep and then there was a lot of coral. It hurt to stand on the coral so we moved closer to the shore, where we stayed for a long time. We got to relax in the sand and José, our tour guide, took a lot of group photos. We came back to the hotel, did some swimming in the pools, and watched the sunset. We were able to take really high-quality time lapse of it — it was beautiful!  Last night we saw a shooting star and we are hoping for another one tonight. We can’t wait for tomorrow!!!
