Historic Batsto Village and Hike

Today was our first day of adventure to the Pine Barrens. We began our journey in Batsto looking at the museum in the visitors center. Batsto was an industrial village in the Pines that centered around a blacksmithing forge and then later became known for making glass.  After this we went on the four mile-long Batsto Lake Trail. On this hike, we were able to see the Batsto River and different landmarks. There were two scenic overlooks and many opportunities to see the beautiful river and trees.

After this we sat at the camp grounds and ate lunch.  Around 30 minutes later we got to explore Batsto Village! There are around 40 historical structures that have been preserved. We were able to see a mansion, the village general store, and various houses used by former residents.  We are so excited for the upcoming week!!
