Seventh Grade: Day of Service at Palmyra Cove

During our day at Palmyra Cove, we did many things to help the environment. These things included cutting down the invasive vines on the trees and picking up trash.

When we got to Palmyra Cove, we cut the invasive vines of the trees because these types of vines strangle the trees. Many people noticed that there were a lot of vines on the trees, and that they had grown very thick and were a little hard to cut.

After lunch in the research center and a little exploration of the museum in it, we hiked back out to the bank of the Delaware River to pick up the trash. Many students were shocked by the sheer amount of trash on the beach. The group learned a lot about how the invasive species could harm more things than just the trees, as Palmyra Cove is on the migratory path of many species of birds. The trash on the beach can harm fish and other animals if they eat it.

We were all very glad we could help the environment.
