Blacksmithing Day 3: Cowbells and Kazoos

This is Todd’s story…

Today is the first day I came to blacksmith. Actually, I had no idea about what I should do at first. Luckily, with Jack and Cole’s help, I found my tools quickly, and begin trying to burn the fire. At the beginning, we wrongly mixed coal with cardboard and wood. In this case, firing material were all burned quickly, before igniting the coals. To solve this problem, we took out those coals and piled up some wood and cardboard again, and covered them with more coals. Eventually we burned our coals successfully. Other team’s were more professional, burning coals was very easy for them. Once the coals were hot, we began to smith.

At noon, we started to barbecue. Mr. Thompson brought the meat and the marshmallows out to the field. This is the first time I tried to cook a marshmallow. I put it and the chocolate in the middle of two biscuits and it tasted really good. After that, Mr Thompson started cooking burgers and sausages; they are very delicious. I think Mr. Thompson is a professional chef.

This is Carina’s story…

While others were heading on nature walks and creating grappling hooks, I decided to create a kazoo. This was no easy feat, I began by trying to flatten a thick piece of metal only to realize that it was never going to become thin enough! I started again with a thinner piece of metal and eventually that failed as well, so now I have decided to create a cowbell. It may not be as glorious as a kazoo, but it will have to do.
