Day #1 of Podcasting!

To start out our morning, we listened to the podcast Crimes of the Centuries episode hosted by Amber Hunt (Ms. Galler’s favorite podcaster). The episode we heard was about the Lindbergh baby kidnapping, though we were listening to it to observe how to be a good host of a podcast. We found that using audio clips helped emphasize pieces of a story, and we noticed the importance of having a hook at the beginning of an episode to grab the listener’s attention.

Thanks to our IL adviser, Ms. Galler, we were able to have a guest podcaster, Amber Hunt, on Zoom to ask questions to. We ate a bunch of snacks while learning about Amber’s experience podcasting crime.

Our objective through this IL was to create a podcast on a topic that we are interested in recording (topics ranged from social media to sports). Our own group (Addison, Audrey, and Zahra) decided to create a podcast called “That’s What She Said” about teens, addressing platonic and romantic relationships in our first episode. On day one, we were able to read an article, “Writing for the Ear,” to enhance our podcast script-writing abilities. We learned about tips ranging from talking slower than you think you should to capitalizing scripts so it’s easier to read. After reading and annotating the article, we started outlining our own script to make sure that we were ready to start recording later this week.

A sneak peek into our own episode’s hook!
