From Reykjavík to Hella, with waterfalls, geysers, and tomato soup along the way

We started our morning with a nice breakfast buffet at Fosshotel Reykjavík. Then, we headed to Thingvellir National Park, one of the most sacred places in Iceland. This park is the original site of the oldest existing parliament in the world, dating back to 930 A.D. We then enjoyed a scenic drive through the Golden Circle, which comprises Thingvellir National Park, The Geysir Geothermal Area, and Gullfoss Waterfall.

We stopped for lunch at Friðheimar Tomato Farm, where we learned the origins of the family business, tasted amazing tomatoes, and ate tomato soup and bread for lunch. After lunch, we drove to Gullfoss Waterfall, where we enjoyed the beautiful views. We were able to make it to Strokkur, an active geyser that erupts approximately every ten minutes. We enjoyed a few eruptions before heading over to the Secret Lagoon.

This lagoon, which is more private when compared to the more famous Blue Lagoon, is the oldest natural pool in Iceland. We had a great time in the warm water while enjoying the cold breeze. After the lagoon, we had an hour-long drive to the Stracta Hotel in Hella. After a quick break we enjoyed a three-course meal at the hotel, which included smoked salmon, duck, and fudge for dessert.
