Habitat for Humanity: Twelve attempts to roll up a carpet, or, the value of a hard day’s work

Day One

For day one of our Habitat for Humanity Intensive Learning we traveled to the Burlington County Habitat for Humanity Restore.

They were moving their offices to a new store on Rt. 38 and needed our help packing and loading their old office. We filled boxes and stacked them onto pallets to be trucked over to the new restore.

We brushed shoulders with an enthusiastic supervisor named Rob and took twelve attempts to roll up a carpet (above).

We learned to use a pallet jack and cleaned out an old fridge. We shredded paper Enron style ( Joe made that joke 6 times) and loaded door frames into some guy’s van.

All in all a productive day with an extended lunch brake. Thomson kept the the camera rolling, catching all of the best shenanigans including the first tattoo given.
