Hands-on Science: Wheelchair Ramp Building and Ice Cream

Today we worked on our third topic, physics. We had a build day to construct wheelchair ramps in accordance with the ADA guidelines. We were given different materials like cardboard and foam core in order to build our ramp models, and we got really creative in decorating them. Our ramps were scaled down, but we did our best to adhere to the restrictions. On Thursday morning our ramps will be tested and graded in order to decide a winner. Overall, we learned how to use math to scale down objects, like finding the slope of the ramp, and we combined creativity with science to make our ramps.

We also took a trip to Brain Freeze on Main Street for a treat as a reward for all the hard work we did earlier in the day. Some popular choices were the root beer float and chocolate chip ice cream. Thank you to Ms. Tate and Ms. Slocum for treating us after a hard-working day.
