MFSpanish: Visiting a Bilingual School

Today we helped in a bilingual class of kindergarteners and first graders. They were so cute. It was a lot of fun to talk to them in Spanish.

We headed off to Philadelphia to visit Southwark, an elementary school introducing a bilingual program. We helped out with kindergarten and first graders who were doing their work, and talked to them about their lives outside of school. They were absolutely adorable and spoke Spanish very well. At first it was a bit troublesome to keep up with their conversations, but they helped us by explaining some things in English. The children not only spoke Spanish very well, but they also spoke English fluently. We played games, helped them with their computer and class work.

After talking to the children for a couple hours, we went to Los Gallos restaurant. There we ordered a plethora of Mexican food. The food was very delicious, and the staff was very nice. After stuffing ourselves with scrumptious ‘comida,’ we returned to Southwark, where we read them a story and helped the out with more schoolwork. Today was a great day and we definitely had a lot of fun working with the children.
