Multicultural Philadelphia: Jewish History Tour

Today we went to the historically Jewish area of Philadelphia. We took a tour through the area and learned about the most important people and places that made up the Jewish neighborhood, one being Commodore Levy, who was in the Navy and once said, “I am an American, a sailor, and a Jew.”

There were multiple synagogues that we visited but the one we went into was the oldest synagogue purposely built as a synagogue, B’nai Abraham. The president of the synagogue and the rabbi spoke to us about the history of the congregation and about the upcoming holiday of Passover. We ended the day with lunch at the Reading Terminal Market.
