Norway: Husky Camp and Showshoeing

This morning we met at 9:15, which was an early start, but everyone was ready and excited for the day. We walked to the bus station and took about 30 minutes to get to the snowshoeing tour camp. We met some lovely huskies and local guides. On the way of snowshoeing, everyone felt so appreciative — the mountain was peaceful, the weather was sunny, and the wind was gentle. We enjoyed some hot tea and hot chocolate on our way and learned about some fun facts about the huskies. Some of us got to walk the huskies; they can be quite naughty, yet we all loved spending time with them.

Putting the snowshoes on was a bit tricky, but once they were on we started our hike up the trail. As we walked through the hills, we enjoyed the beautiful natural scenery of Norway while learning more about Norwegian culture and skiing/snowshoeing.

Once we reached the end, we enjoyed hot tea and cookies as we contemplated which husky we’d each want to adopt one day. Before we headed back to catch our bus, we played with the dogs one last time before saying goodbye.

Later in the evening we also got the chance to enjoy one of Norway’s favorite activities: swimming. You could see the steam lifting off of the heated pool as we approached it from across the street. The beautiful view along with the warm water surrounded by cold air was a new experience for us all. We also explored other areas in the facility such as the cold and hot plunge pools, water slides, and saunas.
