Quilting Day One: Learning the Missouri Star

On our first day of quilting we started off the day with a little bit of show and tell with the quilts that Mrs. Casne and Mrs. Reilly had made. After that we watched a video on how to make the pattern for the quilts. The pattern is called the Missouri Star. The first part of the process was selecting our quilt squares and the fabrics that we would use to make the stars. To get the star pattern on the quilt you would sew the fabric to the square. You would sew two pieces of fabric to each square. This may sound easy, but as George and I discovered this isn’t true. We had several malfunctions, the most notable of which was when our thread would turn into a “Beard.” However, we were able to conclude on a good note, having all of our first pieces of fabric sewed on. The finished quilts will go to a local organisation that helps women and their babies.
