Ready to Serve: South Jersey Service

After an aspiring service-themed assembly yesterday, we are ready to participate in the South Jersey Service Intensive Learning program.

Here’s the most up-to-date itinerary:

Friday, 3/20: We will be headed to the Perkins Center for the Arts right in Moorestown to help the Arts center prepare their garden beds for spring, help them build brand new compost bins, and organize for the Center’s arts- and eco-themed  summer camp.

Monday, 3/23: We are volunteering with the Heart of Camden, an organization that focuses on neighborhood beautification. They need some help organizing their warehouse, and we may be doing some neighborhood clean-up as well.

Tuesday, 3/24: We are meeting a representative from the NJ Land and Water Trust to help clean up Newton lake at Newton Park, along route 30. At the end of our work, our representative is giving us a demonstration of the macroinvertabrates found within the lake – should be fun!

Wednesday, 3/25: We will go to the Neighborhood Center in Camden where we will help the Center with a variety of tasks, including: garden preparation, classroom organization, general maintenance, and lunch preparation. The Neighborhood Center is an amazing organization that MFS has had a long-standing relationship with; they do incredible work within Camden.

Thursday, 3/26: We will spend the day at Collingswood Manor, a retirement home, helping with any and all tasks they have for us.

Friday, 3/27: We will be celebrating our work from the past week with the other local intensive learning groups. There will be a potluck breakfast and tons of photos to show off.

Throughout the week: Since we are back before 3:10 each day, we have made a connection with an organization that accepts homemade, decorated cards for a variety of occasions to send to those who may not receive mail otherwise. I anticipate we’ll make around 45 cards to donate to Cards for Clients.
