Sacred Spaces: Arch Street Meeting House and Congregation Mikveh Israel

We started the morning with donuts and headed to Philadelphia. The first stop we made was at the Arch Street meeting house. There we learned about the history of the meeting house and people who potentially could have attended. Our tour guide informed of the many historical aspects of the house and small details that could have gone unnoticed. We learned how they would have separated the men and women during meeting, which was interesting.

After we went to the Meeting house we were surprised with the gift of going to Reading Terminal for lunch. The options that were available were overwhelming. It was a lot of fun and something different to do.

The last stop on the agenda was to the Congregation Mikveh Israel. The Rabbi at the synagogue told us about his past and the Jewish religion.  He informed us about the fascinating life of Nathan Levy and his contributions to the Jewish community. Surprisingly, Nathan Levy was actually the man responsible for bringing the Liberty Bell to the United States.

Overall, it was a great and informative day and we thoroughly enjoyed it. 🙂
