South Jersey Service Day 2: Newton Lake Clean-Up

The day began with a short bus ride to Newton Lake where we were met by Michael and Phil of the South Jersey Land and Water Trust. They explained the history of the river and the importance of keeping the lake clean. We were then given trash grabbers with the task to clean up as much trash as possible. Even though we worked for hours, it was very sad to see the large amount of trash surrounding the lake. After cleaning the trash we were able to ask questions to Michael and Phil about the health of the lake. We returned to the school around 12:30 for lunch and finished the day off with making cards for Cathedral Kitchen and other charities, and playing tennis and soccer. It was nice to have some sunshine for our morning work outside today! We’re looking forward to tomorrow’s visit to the Neighborhood Center in Camden.
