New start for 2026’s South Jersey Service!!! Today, we went to Food Bank of South Jersey to help sort and package food supplies that were donated to the food bank from different companies.

In there, we met Justin, whose main job is running the sorting room where they bring their volunteers to do activities: sorting different donated products from companies including Target, CostCo, and ACME, into different categories that they can send out to the community.

After signing in and a brief introduction, we were led by Justin into the sorting room, where there were lots of boxes with different food supplies, including snacks, protein, grains, drinks, fruits, vegetables, soup and so on.
We were divided into two groups – packaging and sorting. At the beginning, it didn’t go well. One minute after we got into the sorting room, we were out again because a glass bottle broke. Then Justin helped us to clean the mess, when another glass bottle dropped and broke again. After cleaning up the mess, we officially started!

Five groups of people are ready!

During this volunteer experience, the biggest difficulty was that there were tons of water that needed to be packed. People from other groups were helping the drink category to pack water. More than 900 pounds of water were packed and will be sent out to the community.

Food Bank of South Jersey helped us learn about food insecurity and how it is all around us. Food banks in the US show us how important it is for people to help others in need.
