Although the previous day was long, we got the opportunity to gain energy through some much needed rest. The morning started before the sun rose due to an early 6 a.m. breakfast.
Several activities had been planned, most notably the bike ride around Bangkok. However, little did several know that the bike ride would be one of the main highlights of the trip.
Max Steward said, “I didn’t have any expectations for the bike ride, but I loved how many stops we made at the temples, Muay Thai school, stores, and parks. More specifically, the temple allowed me to learn how Buddhism is incorporated in everyday Thai life. The bike ride is definitely a highlight of my trip.”
Although the bike ride was easy for some, others found it difficult, having to relearn how to ride a bike. However, those students embraced being uncomfortable and quickly caught up with the pace of the group. After the bike ride in the heat and humidity the group stopped at a scenic restaurant that encapsulated Thai culture and relaxation while also including some fun activities. While students were waiting for food, they decided to pass the time by laying on hammocks, riding paddle boats, and walking around the different spots the restaurant had to offer.
Justin Lewis exclaimed, “I think the scenery was the best part about the restaurant. You could paddle around on a boat or sit and rehydrate yourself. I also loved the Coke they gave us because it used sugar cane and not added sugars with chemicals.”
The beginning of the second day was nothing short of a blast.
Next we had a two and a half hour bus ride to the jungle where they would spend one night in luxury at the Mida resort. On the way there we took advantage of the rest stops, getting 7/11 and KFC. Many students bought new types of foods/snacks to try to enhance their experience in Thailand.
After arriving at the Mida resort, we immediately jumped into the pool to have some fun. We played pool games such as Marco Polo and Categories. The group had an amazing dinner at the resort’s restaurant. The dinner consisted of fried chicken wings, sweet and sour chicken, rice, french fries, fried fish, and soup.
With the remaining time before curfew some of us decided to take some pictures around the resort campus and eventually went to bed around 10 p.m. Although today was exciting, many couldn’t wait for the experience at the elephant sanctuary tomorrow.
