Teamwork in the air

When we first arrived we were given a tour of the main building. They informed about various oysters and shucking competitions. Then we went to the dock and moved around equipment to go about our day easier. The inclement weather didn’t even faze us because of all the fun we were having.

After that, we divided ourselves among the different tasks. They taught us how to properly sand. We learned that you have to sand with the grain of the wood. I could feel the teamwork in the air as we all worked together to complete a group goal. We sanded blocks of wood and spars. We bonded over lunch by all sitting at one table. This last part of the day consisted of sanding again.

Due to the weather conditions we had to leave a few minutes early. It was a real bummer because we were having such a grand time. Overall this first day was really enjoyable and we learned a lot of new things. I’m so glad I signed up for this Intensive Learning because I would never have learned about oysters in such depth. This is a whole new side of the bay that my eyes are being opened to.
Day one was a complete success.
