University City Architecture

Today, in Philadelphia Architecture Intensive Learning, we explored University City. We were taken on an extensive tour around the campus of University of Pennsylvania. We entered many of the buildings on Penn’s campus, including a classroom building, an admissions building, and the Palestra. We also briefly visited a building on the campus of Drexel University. We then finished at the 30th Street Train Station. We learned about many different architectural styles, and many different architects  such as Frank Furness, Caesar Pelli, and McKim Medon White. – Andrew L

Today we had an extensive tour of The University of Pennsylvania. Our tour began at College Hall where we observed many collegiate Gothic buildings. We also visited one of Penn’s cafeterias, athletic fields, and basketball arena. We had a lot of fun touring Penn’s campus. Afterwards we walked through Drexel’s campus and through 30th Street Station before coming home. We had a lot of fun! – Ian

Today we toured the University of Pennsylvania. Many of the buildings were built using red brick and stone. Many of the newer buildings were built in more contemporary styles, however they still fit in with the more general style of the university. As the school continues to expand, more land will continue to be purchased. New buildings will be built, and old ones will be redone. Overall, the institution will continue to grow. -Tyler
