Art and Social Change, Day Two — Mural Arts

This morning we left on a bus for Philadelphia. We went on a Mural Arts tour around the city, where our tour guide explained how murals impact the community by creating new opportunities for people and inspiring social change. Some of the topics included homelessness and the Black Lives Matter Movement. We also learned how the Mural Arts Center works to stop illegal graffiti and replace it with murals. Many of the murals in Philly are on the buildings surrounding parking lots because they provide an unobstructed view of the art. If you find yourself in Philly, look around and notice some of the remarkable pieces of art. For lunch, we ate at the Reading Terminal Market. After we took the bus back to school, we took chairs outside and relaxed in the sun.
