Literary England — Chatsworth House and a Hike in the Peak District

Today, we started our morning by boarding the bus at 8 am to head to Chatsworth House. After driving for two hours, we came upon a turn that our bus couldn’t handle, so we spent the next half hour or so driving backwards up a windy road. It was okay, though, because we were all together! Fifteen minutes later, we were at Chatsworth!

We went on a guided tour of the estate and were bamboozled by the optical illusions and the secret passageways that the house contained.

Mrs. Galler took a picture with Mr. Darcy in the gift shop.

We ate lunch in the stables, which were large enough to be a house on their own, and then got back on the bus to head to the Peak District for a hike.

This is the exciting part. We started hiking and everything was fine. Then, our group slowly drifted apart, splitting into two almost even groups. The lagging group accidentally made a wrong turn, but the view they ended up finding was pretty, and they eventually found the others.

We deemed a random hill to be the one from the Princess Bride and Ms. Galler and Ms. Mackenzie rolled down it for the photo op.

We got back onto the bus, covered in mud and exhausted but satisfied that we had completed the hike. The ride to the hotel was an hour long, and then we ate dinner and went to bed. Woohoo!
