From Paris to Lyon

Today we left Paris for the next chapter of the trip in Lyon. We were out of the Paris hostel before nine and on an Amtrak-esque train to France’s second-largest city by 10:30, giving us somewhat of a full day of shopping and touring historical landmarks.

Among the historical landmarks was an enormous church towards the center of the city and an ancient Roman amphitheatre. Especially fascinating at the amphitheatre was its seating arrangement, which was incredibly steep, and the way the stone blocks the Romans once called seats were worn down to black.

By the time dinner came and went, a large number of us were filled with tons of energy, so we decided to handle that in the most American way possible: a dance party in a public plaza with portable Beats by Dre speakers. We were even joined by Lyon natives, which was interesting to say the least. Once the dance had tired us out completely, we made it back to the hostel for a good night’s sleep.
