Going DEEPer into Design Thinking through Prototyping

The Design Thinkers started out the day by enjoying a bounty of beautiful bagels for breakfast to get started and energized. After that, the groups reviewed their work from the day prior on their MoVE worksheets, analyzing their “what if … ” questions and the task at hand. Building off that, the students presented their solutions to the rest of the groups and received a plethora of helpful feedback that brought further clarity and suggestions to the idea. After making changes to design ideas, they presented the second prototypes in the form of storytelling. Confined to only 90 seconds and 5 post-it notes, the groups had to present their ideas coherently to a group of MFS staff and faculty brought in by Mr. Kelly.

The groups received their feedback and went back to the process to refine their ideas. After the panel, the groups gained insight into the views of actual ATV riders, and their mindsets on the issue, which helped to shift their solutions and what they would address.

“The opportunity to hear the ATV driver’s point of view gave me a new perspective on the situation.” –Lizzie

“It’s amazing to see  the kids coming in at 8am and working hard on their design ideas for multiple hours; they created two prototypes and received feedback after making presentations on both of their prototypes.” –Mr. Trunkwalter

“It’s a lot of hard work!” –Hannah
