Lawyers at Work (1927)

May it please the court, today we learned about Sacco and Vanzetti and the subsequent events leading up to the trial and execution of the two men. I myself, knew very little about the case and as an Italian-American felt compelled to take on the defense side of the case. I’ve done mock trials before and have enjoyed them and this will be the first time that I have taken the defense in a trial. We are preparing our case as I speak and hopefully history will not repeat itself for one Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti. For practice, we did a direct and cross examination of the Once-ler (of The Lorax fame). The Once-ler did not do themselves any favors attempting to blame the lack of environmental regulation for the damage his LLC did. Of course, limited liability exists for a reason.

Lawyer Spotlight: Clarence Darrow

From Wikipedia: “Called a “sophisticated country lawyer,” Darrow’s wit and eloquence made him one of the most prominent attorneys and civil libertarians in the nation. He defended high-profile clients in many famous trials of the early 20th century, including teenage thrill killers Leopold and Loeb, for murdering 14-year-old Robert “Bobby” Franks (1924); teacher John T. Scopes in the Scopes “Monkey” Trial (1925), and Ossian Sweet in a racially charged self-defense case (1926).”

“Justice has nothing to do with what goes on in a courtroom; Justice is what comes out of a courtroom.”

“Lost causes are the only ones worth fighting for.”
