Tuesday, 3/27 Tunnels to Treats

Here we all are, complete with dogs

Enjoying the Dachshunds

*woof* – calling all furry friends and furry friend lovers,

Today was quite eventful. We started off with a daily reading from Inside of a Dog. After that we boarded the bus and ventured to Ev-Ry Farm to see dogs perform the sport called Earth Dog.  Ev-Ry Farm is owned by Dr. Ann Rosenberg who graduated from MFS and whose son, Ryan, also graduated from MFS. She raises Dachshunds that are trained therapy dogs and she has set up an Earth Dog course and an obedience course. Earth Dogs go through underground tunnels to find rats. But don’t worry the rats are in cages and the dogs cannot hurt them. This activity is only for terriers and dachshunds because they can fit in the tunnels.

When we got back to MFS, we ate lunch and baked treats for the four-legged friends of the PSCPA. The treats were a success because Rosie, Ally Maier’s German Shepard, tasted them for us and she liked them. We packed them into decorated bags and we will take them to Mandy at the PSPCA over Spring Break.

Rosie loved our treats
The hard part was mixing the flour, eggs, PB
Rolling and cutting
Decorating bags to pack the treats

We learned a lot today too:

Dogs are capable of many different tasks. Each has a different skill type, weather they are big or small. You would be surprised with what small dogs cam do. Some dachshunds can run up to 25 mph. Terriers and dachshunds can navigate through underground tunnels in order to find rats. Dr. Rosenberg gave us a dozen farm fresh eggs and 2 of them were green, because certain chickens lay green eggs!
